Spots and Stripes Forever Rescue sits on a 30-acre farm in northwest Lee County, North Carolina, given over entirely to rescued dogs, cats, and equines. The equines graze ten open acres, the dogs have fifteen enclosed acres to run, and the cats keep the whole upstairs as their own “Catico.” Whether an animal needs a few weeks of care or a permanent home, there is room for it here.

The rescue’s mission is to save stray, abandoned, abused, and surrendered animals from the surrounding community and give them the shelter and care they need, for as long as they need it. Dogs and cats come from local shelters; the equines are pulled from kill pens, including one in nearby Asheboro, where horses are held before slaughter. The focus leans toward Dalmatians, hounds, and cats, though Spots and Stripes takes in other animals whenever it can. Those ready for adoption are placed in responsible homes.

The rescue runs entirely on donations, with steady need for canned food, litter, hay, horse feed, and help with vet bills. Its board members double as the foster homes for many of the dogs and cats in its care. Looking ahead, Spots and Stripes hopes to build a dedicated space for feral cats who cannot be returned to their colonies under county mandates, along with more facilities for its dogs and equines.
